Our Values

These principles guide everything we do and define what it means to be part of PHX Beyond Binary.

Trans People Set the Standard

What makes trans people comfortable defines our community standards. This isn't just an inclusive space—it's a trans-centered space where trans experiences, needs, and comfort take priority. When conflicts arise, trans members' safety and belonging come first.

No Wrong Way to Participate

You don't need to code, build, or attend workshops. Someone who comes here just to play video games and hang out with friends is using the space exactly as intended. Community connection and safe existence are just as valued as skill development.

Everyone Belongs Here

We specifically welcome neurodivergent and autistic people, those experiencing isolation or anxiety, and anyone navigating questions about identity or presentation. There's no pressure, no judgment—just space to be yourself and explore at your own pace.

Safety & Respect

Zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination. All members follow a Code of Conduct that centers respect for all gender identities, neurodivergence, and boundaries. Members who violate community standards face corrective action up to permanent removal.

Why These Values Matter

Our research found no trans-focused tech spaces, hackerspaces, or makerspaces in the Phoenix metro area. While general makerspaces exist, none center trans people or provide dedicated resources for LGBTQ+ community members.

Trans people face unique barriers to accessing tech spaces: social anxiety, isolation, economic barriers to technology resources, autism and neurodivergence that make traditional spaces unwelcoming, and lack of representation and safety in existing communities.

PHX Beyond Binary fills this gap by combining safe trans community space with professional-grade technical resources. We create an environment where trans people can thrive without having to explain ourselves or deal with constant anxiety about acceptance.

Our Commitment

Growth will always be guided by community needs and member feedback. We're building this space for and with trans people, ensuring the organization remains responsive to the people it serves.

As we grow, we'll expand programming to include more identity-focused offerings alongside technical resources—makeup tutorials, voice training, healthcare navigation, and other skill-sharing relevant to trans experiences.

Every decision we make will center trans comfort, safety, and belonging. This space exists to serve our community, and that will never change.
